It’s night-time when a Magician enters his workshop to check up on everything. While doing so, Tinkerbell appears in the workshop showering various items with her pixie dust. A knock on the trapdoor changes everything, Mickey arrives. As an assistant to the Magician Mickey is ordered to give the workshop a good clean before the Moon disappears from the sky. Even though Mickey wants to practice his magic, he promises to finish up cleaning first. As the Magician leaves the workshop the he reminds Mickey that ‘a true magician always keeps his promises’. Suddenly a Magician’s hat starts to distract Mickey by making noises. Easily distracted as he is, Mickey starts to practice his magic with the hat who refuses to help him out.

Mickey discovers an old armchair which needs some dusting. Fairy Godmother appears right onto the chair. She teaches Mickey about magic by singing Bibbidi-bobbidi-boo. It’s with her magic words that she makes Cinderella’s dress appear on an empty dress display. Fairy Godmother, with a little help from Mickey, enchants the dress so that Cinderella appears in it. Fairy Godmother teaches Mickey that you never have to give up on your dreams. But time is ticking and Cinderella needs to get to the ball. Even conjuring enchanted carriages out of thin air isn’t a hard task for Fairy Godmother. Cinderella leaves in her carriage and Fairy Godmother disappears soon after.

Another piece of the Moon disappears and Mickey continues his cleaning by dusting off an old candelabra which turns out to be Lumière. Lumière sneezes and in doing so startles Mickey. According to Lumière it’s time to prepare the banquet, so prepare yourself to be his guest. Lumière’s real lesson is the magic of love and who better to assist him in teaching this than Beauty and the Beast themselves. After a dance of Beauty and the Beast, Lumière concludes the scene by leaving Mickey with his second lesson: ‘True magic lives within our heart’. The Magician’s hat reminds Mickey that the clock is ticking. Soon after the Magician knocks on the trapdoor to inform how Mickey has progressed. With his head still in the clouds after Lumière’s lesson, Mickey becomes quickly distracted from cleaning again.

A zoetrope catches Mickey’s attention and he decides to give it a spin. The shadows are projected on every wall of the workshop’s walls. One of the shadows appears to be standing still on a curtain and Mickey removes the curtain. The shadow turns out to be Rafiki who has another lesson to teach to Mickey. It’s the magic of the Circle of Life. As a final council, Rafiki reminds Mickey that he needs to follow his dreams and with them his destiny. After seeing all the animals Mickey wants to play a guessing game in which the Magician’s hat mimics a lion’s growl. But the fun is soon over as another piece of the Moon disappears.

It’s back off to work for Mickey as he drops a magic lamp on the floor and discovers a spot on it. It turns out to be the magic lamp from Aladdin as Genie emerges from the smoke. Genie shows off some of his magic tricks to see if Mickey really didn’t have a friend like him. A tap-dance routine follows as Genie welcomes everyone to Agrabah. Making people happy is the best magic according to Genie. With this lesson learned Genie once again disappears and with him another piece of the Moon.

Hurrying his cleaning, Mickey finds a snow globe with snow coming out of it. Out of this snow comes Olaf. After deciding whatever he likes more (summer or magic) Olaf introduces Elsa. It’s here that Elsa teaches Mickey that magic lives inside everyone, but courage is needed to share it with who we love. The lesson to let go of fear follows soon after.

With one piece of the Moon left, Mickey is feeling ecstatic as he enchants a broom to clean by itself. Everything goes wrong when Mickey realizes that he isn’t in control of his magic and the workshop is destroyed. The last piece of the Moon is now gone from the sky and the Magician re-enters his workshop only to find Mickey sobbing on the floor. Mickey excuses himself and questions if he’ll ever be a good magician because he didn’t keep his promise. But the Magician reminds him to never give up and to remember the lessons of his friends. As a true magician always keeps his promise, the Magician gives Mickey a wand and lets Mickey keep his promise by restoring the destroyed workshop. As icing on the cake, Mickey gets to put on the Magician’s hat. By letting the magic shine, all of Mickey’s friends return to the workshop in a finale song. As a final act of magic the Magician, covered in a blanket, gets lifted up in the sky and appears to be gone when the blanket is removed. It turns out to be that the Magician is now watching over Mickey and his friends from the Moon.
