Luca is a boy with big dreams. Dreaming about going places you and I have been plenty of times. The human world! Luca is not just a boy, he's also a sea monster. Despite his parents' warnings, he ventures onto land where he meets his best friend to be, Alberto. Who, as it turns out is also a sea monster. When they exit the water (and get dry) they turn into their human form and are indistinguishable from real humans. Luca's journey of discovery turns into a journey of self-discovery where he learns to trust himself and to be himself. Soon they meet the human girl, Giulia, who saves Luca and Alberto in a pickle. Together they train for the local triathlon called the Portorosso Cup. Luca's personality further evolves from timid and obedient to courageous and independent, as he learns to embrace his true self and pursue his dreams despite societal prejudices.
