Cogsworth is Beast's majordomo who was turned into an enchanted clock as part of the Enchantress's curse. In contrast to his friend Lumière, Cogsworth prefers to live by the rules.  By ensuring that everything is to the Beast's liking, he acts as a sort of peacekeeper.  Yet, his loyalty to the Beast is genuine and he sincerely cares for the well-being of his master and fellow servants of the castle.
