Characterized by his arrogance, ignorance, and idiocy the hunter Gaston thinks that he is superior to all other inhabitants of his village. The villagers conceive Gaston as a good, if not the best character, which fuels his ego even further.  He is convinced that he is meant to marry Belle and is determined not to let anyone else win her heart.  Gaston hates the Beast because, in the end, it seems he will be the one who wins Belle's heart.
